Brad Gibson, 58, husband of Lori Mitchum Gibson, whom he loved with his whole heart, died peacefully at home on April 29, 2025. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 1, 1966, the son of Gerald Dewey Gibson and Barbara Kanipe Ballard.
After graduating from Independence High School in 1984, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1984-2008, stationed in North Dakota, Germany, and the NC Air National Guard. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant and decorated veteran. Some of his special duties were head of security for Presidential visits and Honor Guard for military funerals. While in the military he graduated from Liberty University in 2004 with a degree in Biblical studies. For 13 years, he was a Christian counselor, and he taught Air Force JROTC for 10 years before retiring.
Brad loved Jesus, and he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail for almost 30 years. He loved spending time in prayer and reading the Word. His anchor verse was Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
He was an encourager, and he loved helping people. He was generous, kind, and a fierce protector of his family and loved ones. He had amazing wit and comedic timing. He had an infectious way of making people laugh, mostly at himself. He was an incredible cook and loved serving people. He enjoyed trips to the beach and the mountains, but what he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his grandson and best buddy, Walker, whom he adored.
Brad loved his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Joyce Gibson and Barbara Ballard. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lori, his son Ryan Gibson (Lindsay), daughter Megan Gibson (Joe), grandson Walker Bell, mother-in-law, whom he loved like his own, Marilyn Mitchum, brother Brent Gibson, three sisters Amy Ballard, Jill Cox (Clark), and Gina Shumaker (Brian), three nieces, Camryn Cox, Kendall Shumaker, and Avery Cox, and nephew Justin Shumaker, and his chosen family, the Hal Howard Life Group, and Carla, Allie, and Cameron Commander.
