

Carol Ann (Newton) Stansbury passed peacefully on February 6th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born in Memphis, TN on December 27th, 1939 to the late Isaac and Mildred Newton. She was the oldest of ten children.
Carol graduated from Le Moyne College in Memphis TN with a BA in Elementary Education. She married William "Stan" H Stansbury Jr. on January 19, 1963. A military wife, she and Stan had three children and were stationed in Memphis TN, Quantico VA, Philadelphia PA, Camp Lejeune NC, Okinawa Japan and Albany GA. They recently moved to Charlotte NC to be near their daughter, granddaughter and great grandchildren.
Carol was an educator; she worked as a teacher and later, as a curriculum specialist at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, GA where she and Stan retired. She loved God and the Catholic Church and took an active role in the church her entire life through her singing, readings during Mass, and hosting sub-parishes at her home with her husband and tuning into Mass each Sunday when she could no longer attend service.
She also loved spending time with her family, playing bunco with her friends, bowling, traveling, playing pinochle, working at the soup kitchen, and watching sports. She was especially passionate about the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Atlanta Braves. Her kind and friendly spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Carol is preceded in death by her brothers, Isaac "Bubba" Newton, Terry Newton and Gerald Newton.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, William "Stan" Stansbury Jr.; her three children, William "Will" Stansbury III (Diane) of Arlington MA, Mitzi Downs (Dexter) of Charlotte NC, and Todd Stansbury (Jodie) of Portland, OR; her five grandchildren, Danelle Downs, Kami Peoples, Randall Stansbury, Jayson Stansbury, and Nolen Stansbury; her two great-grandchildren, Kyla Peoples and Kamryn Peoples; her sisters, Mildred Talley (Ralph) and Linda Muckleroy-Holt; her brothers, Kenny Newton (Gwen), Glen Newton (Gloria), Roy Newton, and Ricky Newton; and many other loving family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. A reception will follow the service.
