Dan was born in Durham, North Carolina to Charles S. Matthews and Virginia O. Matthews in October 1947. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dan proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1970 to 1976, reaching the rank of Sergeant.
Dan was a financial planner and life insurance agent for over 50 years. He had a passion for classic automobiles (particularly Ford Mustangs from 1965-1973), Notre Dame football, and the shooting sports.
He is survived by his wife, Suzie Matthews, to whom he was married for 55 years, five children, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service for Dan will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00am at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
