

Born July 24, 1939 in North Dakota, he was a son of the late Reverend John F. Simonson and Hortense Seaberg Simonson.
In 1961 he received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan College of Mining and Technology.
In 1979 he received a Bachelor of Science and Accounting Degree from Winthrop College.
David served in the US Army from September 1962-April 1965 working in the Security Division. Following his time in the military, he worked as an insurance adjuster for Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FA Global) starting June 26, 1961 until 2004.
He continued with the company part time until December 30, 2013 making 52 years of service.
He was a member of the Early Ford V8 club.
His hobbies included working on cars, fixing anything broken, the outdoors in upper Michigan, and his nightly watching of Jeopardy, working on crossword puzzles and playing Pinochle.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) F. Simonson of Matthews, NC; sister, Jean Stauffer (Don) of Minnesota; brother, Leonard Simonson (Karen) of Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Elizabeth A. Bilby (James) of SC; and stepson, Gordon B. Dailey (Michelle Bentley) of Mass.
He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren, three great grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 3:00 until 4:00p.m. Friday, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill.
A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel of McEwen Mint Hill immediately following the visitation at 4:00.
