Doris Jane Rose, 95, known by her family as Mom, Mom-Mom Rose, and Aunt Doris, passed away on Thursday, January 13th, 2022. Doris was born on August 25th, 1926 in Media, PA to the late Janie and Claude Williams. She attended integrated public schools in Media and graduated in 1944.
Doris married Fred Rose and together they had two children, Denise and Eric. Although Doris and Fred did not remain married, they remained close friends, attending dinners and family events together and checking in on each other from time to time, until Fred’s passing later in life.
It was clear, from an early age that Doris was creative and extremely talented. By the age of 15, she’d become an expert seamstress. Doris was so proficient that she would boast about her ability to peer into the display window of a high-end department store, sketch a dress or design that she liked, and proceed to recreate the look at home. She made her own stunning wedding dress, gorgeous bedding, and beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. She had the unique ability to take something ordinary and turn it into something amazing. Her children and grandchildren lead creative lives today, because of her effortless artistry.
Doris was a fantastic cook, hosting annual family dinners with impressive spreads. She was also a prolific traveler. Doris joined the travel group, Soul Journey in the early 1990s where she was able to travel the world. Before the end of her life, her feet touched over 15 countries. She got to see Austria, Jordan, France, England, Israel, Egypt, Japan, Spain, and China, to name a few. In her final years, it was common to hear her reflect on how “God has allowed me to see so much of his earth,” with gratitude.
Doris worked as a property manager for the government with Housing and Urban Development, where she retired. Thereafter, she worked part-time for Branches, a landscaping company, where she was the receptionist and bookkeeper.
Doris was preceded in death by her siblings; Claudia Tolson, Willie Williams, Earl Williams, and Mary Mosley; and her daughter, Denise Rose.
She leaves behind her son, Eric Rose (Veronica) of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, David Rose (Rachel) of Charleston, SC, Erika Rose (Patrick) of Hyattsville, MD, and Tamara Smith (Vernard) of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Andrew Robinson, Jaiden Smith, Ava Smith, Naima Crowley, Adisa Crowley, and Wynter Rose; along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will gather to celebrate Doris' life at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
