

She was born January 30, 1927 in Greene Co., NC to Jesse and Myrtle Taylor.
Edna was a faithful member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church for 44 years. She cherished her church and enjoyed being part of the Epworth Sunday School Class. Mrs. Highsmith was a retired elementary school teacher; she loved line dancing, bowling, gardening and most of all time spent with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Highsmith is survived by her daughters, Mary (Bill) Magee and Jeanie (Chuck) Mauney; grandchildren, Paige (Aaron) Campbell, Patrick Mauney and Will Magee; sister, Delia Rose Price and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, her husband, James Edward Highsmith preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 4th of February, 2016 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215 with Dr. Samuel Moore, Jr. officiating. A visitation will be held following the service in the Family Life Center.
The graveside service is to be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 5th of February, 2016 at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley, North Carolina.
The family is very grateful for the many caregivers from Brookdale East - Charlotte and Royal Park - Matthews who took special care of Mrs. Highsmith. The family would also like to thank Celeste Featherstone who cared for Mrs. Highsmith over the past year.
