

Elaine was born on July 3, 1945 to the late Nollie McCollum Carriker and Carmon Long Carriker. She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked as a bookkeeper for Miller Tile and Marble and Lewis Carpenter Construction Company.
Elaine was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Wednesday Night Meal Team, the Baptismal Team, the Dolls on Mission ministry and participated in the “Cut-ups” program. She was an amazing seamstress and loved to sew for her family. She also loved to bake cakes and made many wedding cakes over the years. She was dedicated to her family and her church. She will be remembered for her love for her grandchildren.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her children, Audrey Benton (Dennis) of Denver, NC, and Greg Carpenter (Erica) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Cyndi Sherrill (Scott), Jacob Carpenter and Andrew Carpenter of Charlotte, NC; and great grandchildren, Trevor Hughes, Kasen Sherrill & Parker Sherrill of Vale, NC. She is also survived by a brother, Neil Carriker (Rheta) of Hixson, TN. Mrs. Carpenter is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carpenter is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Lewis Franklin Carpenter; brothers, Devore Carriker, Frelon Carriker, Charles Carriker, Orville Carriker, Harold “Bill” Carriker; sister, Carolyn Huntley; and grandson, Robert Benton.
Memorials can be made to Dolls on Mission or Hearts and Hammers ministry at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Donations can either be made online or by check. Checks can be made payable to Hickory Grove Baptist Church and note “Dolls on Mission” or “Hearts and Hammers” on the memo line.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hickory Grove Baptist Church (Harris Campus), 7200 E W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28215. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Elaine will be laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212.
