

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late John and Attilia (Pivirotto) DePaul. Elder grew up in Pittsburg where he learned the brick laying trade. After his mother passed when he was 21, he was drafted into the Army where he learned morse code. He then served in the Korean War as a low-speed radio operator. Using the GI Bill, Elder was able to attend the University of Pittsburgh where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree.
After graduating, Elder moved to Akron, Ohio with his wife, Jeanette, and son, Ronald, where he worked for General Tire and Continental for 37 years. His work experience included the development of aircraft, truck and passenger tires, and was an expert witness in Products Liability and International Tires. Elder also traveled to Portugal, India, and Pakistan to oversee production facilities.
Elder was an avid runner, bird watcher, gardener, bowler and golfer. He was a devoted and loving father and husband. Elder was married to the love of life, Jeanette, for 64 years.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Babaie (Majid), and John DePaul (Lisa); grandchildren, Michelle Shook (Brian), Jonathan Babaie (Bo Peng), John DePaul (Hannah), Gabrielle, Anthony, and Vincent DePaul; great-grandchildren, Javanni and Jasmine Babaie, and Henry and James DePaul.
In addition to his parents, Elder is predeceased in death by his son, Ronald J. DePaul and wife, Jeanette C. DePaul.
