

Elizabeth Self, age 82, of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025. Born in Asheville, NC on August 13, 1943, Elizabeth lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
She spent her early years in Asheville and Raleigh, before settling in the Charlotte area. A proud graduate of Millbrook High School (Class of 1961) and Charlotte Beauty College, Elizabeth built a life rooted in service, kindness, and connection.
Elizabeth was a devoted member of St. Michael's Anglican Church and actively participated in the Women of Windrow Club – Matthews Community in the later years of her life. Her faith and friendships were central to her life, and she found joy in bringing people together.
Her passions included gardening, cooking, playing bingo and board games, and most of all, spending quality time with her loved ones. Whether on family vacations or gathered around the dinner table, Elizabeth’s presence was a source of comfort and joy. Her family remembers her as the heart of their home—generous, caring, and always striving to reunite and strengthen family bonds.
She is survived by her children: Roy Self, Reed Self, and Allison Hill; and her beloved grandchildren: Cami, Sierra, and Carson Self; Rebecca and Hannah Self; Preston and Tristan Hill and her twin sister, Rebecca Wetmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Self; and her parents, Henry and Helen Hawkins.
A memorial mass will be held in celebration of Elizabeth’s life on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Michael's Anglican Church, 2211 Margaret Wallace Rd, Matthews, NC 28105. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
Elizabeth’s legacy of love, kindness, and connection will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
