

Eloise Ostwalt Lingle, 100, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. Born on June 17, 1925, in Iredell County, Eloise lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and devotion to family and friends.
She attended Celeste Henkel High School for 11 years, earning a perfect attendance award and playing on the basketball team. She graduated as her class Salutatorian. After graduation, Eloise continued her education at Kings Business College and volunteered as a candy striper for the American Red Cross. She worked for Belk Stores in the Buyers Department, where her professionalism and dedication were well respected. Later, she worked for several insurance companies as an underwriter.
Eloise was a longtime member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church and the W.J. Edwards Sunday School Class.
Outside of work, Eloise loved spending time with family and friends, camping and traveling in their RV, and ballroom dancing. She will be remembered for her compassion, sense of humor, and the energy she devoted to her children’s ball games, swim meets, and dance classes.
Eloise is survived by her children: Ben A. Lingle III; Virginia L. (Danny) Pharr; and Martha L. (Jim) Abernathy; grandchildren: Kara L. Russo, Stephanie Lingle, Scott and Mark Abernathy; and great-grandchildren: Tristan Lingle, Dane and Ethan Russo, Madelene and Isabel Abernathy. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ezzie Ostwalt; her husband, Ben A. Lingle Jr.; grandson, Brian M. Wingate; and brothers, P.D. (Iris) Ostwalt, Jack (Margaret) Ostwalt, and Donald Ostwalt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Breakthrough T1D.
The family would like to recognize the staff of Little Flower Assisted Living Facility in Mint Hill for their excellent care and love for Mom for past 6 years.
A visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, located at 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location, beginning at 12:30 pm.
Eloise will be laid to rest at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
