

Everette Alexander Bowers, 85, of Matthews, NC, passed away on March 28, 2014, at the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones who were his constant source of love and support. Everette was born November 5, 1928, in Anson County, NC, to the late Jesse and Jessie Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Delores; his brothers, James and John Bowers; and his sister, Laura Carpenter.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Bowers Gravely and her husband, Fenton Gravely, of Matthews, and their daughter, Megan Gravely; his son, Michael Everette Bowers of Indian Trail, his daughter, Mykel Bowers, and her son and Everette’s only great-grandchild, Alexander Bowers; his son, Mark Lee Bowers and his wife, Janice Bowers, of Mineral Springs, and their daughters, Lindsey and Leah Bowers; and his daughter, Sandra Bowers Grubb and her husband, Rick Grubb, of Unionville, and their daughter, Morgan Grubb. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob Bowers of Matthews, and Lewis Bowers of Litchfield Beach, SC; his sister, Dot Phifer of Mint Hill; and his companion and caregiver, Sharon Davis of Matthews; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Everette served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. He returned to Charlotte in 1954 and had a long career as a truck driver. He retired from Swinson Food Products and continued to drive for many years. He loved bird hunting, gardening, playing golf and racing, but most of all he loved his family and he loved life. He was an amazing man, a wonderful, caring father, and the best “Papa” ever to his grandchildren. His great sense of humor will provide special memories for years to come.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Monday, March 31, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 1, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Tom Mabry officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
