

Gerald was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 7, 1942 to Albert and Frances Oberer; and resided in that area until the family moved to Alpena, Michigan. Jerry played football for Central Catholic HIgh School where he graduated in 1960. His other past times included hunting and playing hockey.
The family moved to Tampa, Florida where he then graduated from the University of South Florida as a member of the Charter Class in 1963 with a BA in Business Administration.
Jerry began his career in the commercial baking business with Continental Baking Company and worked in Raleigh, NC as well as Utica, NY, where he was the Plant Manager.
Jerry soon tired of the cold weather, he joined Flowers Foods in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. After five successful years, the family moved to Charlotte, NC where they now reside.
Jerry concluded his 47 year career by retiring in 2006. Golf became the love of his life, and he enjoyed playing as much as possible at their winter home in The Villages, Florida.
He was a long time member of Cedarwood Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina and a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Jerry was predeceased by his daughter, Suzanne and great-grandson, Jaxon.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years; Ellen, his sons; Patrick (Angela), Andrew (Angie) and daughter, Kelly (David) McGuirt, his grandchildren; Richard, Sean, Kristina, Cassandra, Brendan and Daniel; great-grandson, Jayce; brother, Frederick (Zita) and sister, Linda Henne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Rd East, Fort Mill, South Carolina 29715. Inurnment will immediately follow. All are invited to a reception in the Narthex of the church after the inurnment.
