

Born January 16, 1929 in Marshville, North Carolina, Max was a son of the late Edgar and Mary Lee Thomas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Max was employed with Kroehler for 10 years, retired as a sales agent with Life of Virginia after 21 years of service, and continued on as an insurance broker for a number of years.
In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jonell Bowden Thomas, his son, Bryan Thomas, and his sister, Willie Ruth Baucom.
He is survived by his three daughters, Christale Norwood (Frank), Darlene Bartlett (Tony), and Dena Townsend (Johnny); his five grandchildren, his two great-grandchildren; his brother, Herbert Thomas; and his sister, Audrey Hamilton.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm Sunday, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, December 11, 2017, at Hopewell Baptist Church, Legacy Chapel, 420 Hopewell Church Road in Monroe. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
