

Jane was born January 19, 1933, in Brief, North Carolina, to the late Robert J. Long and Leitha B. Long. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel “Bunk” Lawrence Carriker Jr. of Mint Hill; her brother, Robert B. Long of Mint Hill; and her son-in-law, Ronald L. Cochrane of Mint Hill.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Melissa Carriker Cochrane; her sons, Daniel Lawrence Carriker III (Shelia) and Robert L. Carriker; her grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Cochrane (Samantha), Jennifer L. Cochrane, and Mariana Carriker (partner Jeffrey Hairston); two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and her brother, George Edwin Long (Anne).
Jane graduated from Bethel High School in 1951 and continued her education at King’s Business School. She married Daniel “Bunk” Carriker on January 3, 1952, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Midland, North Carolina. Following Bunk’s deployment to Germany with the U.S. Army, the couple settled in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jane worked for the Atlantic Richfield Company until the office closed. She later joined Gibson Smith Realty Company, where she worked until her retirement in 1995.
Jane loved working with her hands and was rarely without a knitting or needlepoint project. She created many cherished pieces for her children, grandchildren, and friends. Music was also a significant part of her life. She enjoyed playing both the piano and organ, serving as the organist at Bethel Methodist Church and playing piano for the children’s choir at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. She traveled throughout North Carolina playing music for church events and Eastern Star meetings.
Jane had been a devoted member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church since 1971 and faithfully served as a deacon for many years. She also had a passion for gardening, particularly growing amaryllis, which she lovingly shared with others as a symbol of her care and generosity.
Jane will be remembered for her faith, her kindness, and the love she shared with her family and community.

A visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC 28227, on March 12, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227, on March 13, 2026 at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
