He was born on February 21, 1945 in Ablemarle, NC to the late Fletcher Lee and Nina Smith Whitley.
Jerry worked in commercial printing for over 45 years, most recently as an Account Executive. He never met a stranger; he always had a story or joke to tell, most of the time both. Jerry was a current serving elder in his church. He was also a greeter and regularly led children’s church. He loved and believed in his church and hoped that it would continue to grow. Jerry was an active and integral part of his neighborhood community; neighbors would even say they felt safer knowing that he was around. Some of his passions included golf, having a pristine yard, fast hotrods and classic cars, and traveling with Audrey to the beach. But most of all, he loved being Granddaddy to his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Audrey Whitley; children, Chad Whitley (Jodi), Elizabeth Couturier (Scotty), and Thomas Whitley (Trinity); grandchildren, Kenzie Whitley, Blake Whitley, Norah Whitley, James Couturier, and Grace Couturier.
A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 13th of March, 2017 at Robinson Presbyterian Church. A reception celebrating his life will immediately follow the service in the church’s fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Robinson Presbyterian Church, 9424 Harrisburg Road, Charlotte, NC 28215.
