John Wade Blake, 77, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord on March 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised with the values and spirit of his cherished hometown in Milton, West Virginia, on March 30, 1947, he carried a deep pride in his roots throughout his life.
John was a Vietnam Vet with the United States Marine Corps. After Vietnam, he served his country and fellow veterans working for the Veterans Administration. Even after retirement, he never stopped helping veterans claim the benefits they deserved. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, North Carolina.
He is survived by his three beloved daughters, Marci Bennett, Paige Summey, and Susan Seward, and their husbands, Mike, Brandon, and Tony. His legacy also lives on through his four cherished grandchildren, Chris, Rachel, Ryan, and Skylar—each a testament to his love and influence. He is also survived by his sister, Judy [Ashley] Whitehurst; and his brother, Jerry [Elizabeta] Blake; as well as his sister-in-law, Susie Fry; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Dillon Blake, and his parents, Hubert and Frances Blake, Jr.
Known for his quick wit and humor, John’s jokes brought joy to all who knew him. His ability to make others smile will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to bring light to those who remember him. In recent days, you would have found him watching his favorite westerns or tapping his toe to Southern Gospel music.
A celebration of John's life will be held this summer in his hometown, where stories will be shared, laughter will echo, and his memory will be honored.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Metrolina Christian Academy, a place dear to his heart. Contributions to organizations that support Vietnam veterans or active-duty Marines are also welcomed, honoring John’s lifelong dedication to his fellow servicemen and women — Oorah!
