He was a devout Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. He loved his church and enjoyed singing in the choir. John served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960 and was proud of his service to the country. He was a member of the Jaycees Social Club and Beta Sigma Tau Fraternity.
John loved people and never met a stranger. He loved sitting on his front porch and talking to the neighbors as they walked by. He enjoyed working out almost every morning. John loved coaching his son, Mitch's basketball and baseball games as he grew up, and later watching his grandkids play sports. He loved watching In Touch Ministries with Dr. Charles Stanley and Bill Gaither. John savored the outdoors by gardening and growing flowers. He never came across a food that he did not like!
He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He will be remembered most for his caring nature towards everyone and his love for his church.
