Josephine Ray Hayworth

Josephine Ray Hayworth, age 91, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2023. She was born on June 13, 1932 in Martinsville, Virginia to the late William Ray and Abbie Hayworth.

Josephine graduated in 1950 from Martinsville High School, Martinsville, Va and was involved in four clubs during her senior year and was also inducted into the Quill & Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists. She moved to Charlotte, NC in the 1950's and most recently worked with Heyward Incorporated as a secretary and retired in 1994.

She enjoyed reading, spending time working in her yard, and writing - Marcia learned from her over the years she had an article published in the '50's in The Atlantic Magazine and also recorded two songs with Haviland Smith Recording Studio.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara Aileen Thompson.

She is survived by her nephew, Jeffery Thompson and his wife, Charleen, of Matthews, and niece, Marcia Hinson and her husband, Scott, of Mint Hill; great nephew, Joshua Thompson, his wife, Sarah, and their children; Caleigh (of Indian Trail, NC), Levi, and Rhett, all of Florida, great niece, Stephanie Hill, her husband, Clint, and their children; Silas, Canyon, Branson, Blythe, Hutch all of Monroe, NC, great nephew, Zachary Thompson and wife Elizabeth, and Taylor Thompson and wife Megan, and their child, Lilly of Marshville, NC.

A drop in visitation for Josephine will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.
