

Judy was born on January 1, 1944, in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Erwin and Elizabeth Engel. She was the third of seven children and grew up in Norfolk County, VA (now Chesapeake) in a family filled with love and faith. Judy graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, and began her career as a teacher in Sanford, NC in 1968. During her teaching career, she received a master’s degree from NC State University and became a middle-school guidance counselor. She loved working with children and mentored many kids through the years. After a long career, she retired to be a caregiver for her mother. Later she moved to Hemingway, SC to resume her career as a guidance counselor. For the past year, she lived in Matthews, NC to be closer to her family.
She was predeceased by her first husband, William (Bill) Wilson, her second husband, Jerry Grant, and her parents Erwin and Elizabeth Engel. She will be sorely missed by her son, Robert (Bob) Wilson, daughter-in-law, Robin Wilson, and their three children, William (Billy) Wilson, Jennifer (Jenny) Wilson, and Alexander (Alex) Wilson. She will be fondly remembered by her brothers Rev. Richard Engel and wife Sandy of Florida, Timothy Engel and wife Candy of North Carolina, and Phillip Engel and wife Sandi of Virginia; sisters Lorna and Rev. Donald Williams of Indiana, Martha Whalen of Virginia, Karen and husband Phil Bickel of Indiana; sister-in-law Terry Wilson Jones and husband William of Virginia, and 17 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are listed below. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
