With tender mercy, the Heavenly Father called his daughter, Katherine Ellison Crain, home on December 20, 2012. Through His incarnation, Jesus made it possible for “Kappy” to be a holy and blameless present to God this Christmas season. Her faith in Christ was secure.
“Kappy” was born September 11, 1026 in Madison, Florida where her parents, Clarence Henson Ellison and Katherine Smith Ellison took refuge from The Great Miami Hurricane that threatened Miami where they lived at the time. Little did she know that her day of birth would also become an infamous day in history (9/11).
She was raised in Atlanta, Ga. where she attended North Fulton and then went to Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. She made her debut in Atlanta during the 1046-47 season and was married to George J. Yundt, Jr. in 1948 with whom she had two children; George J. Yundt, III and Katherine Ellison Yundt. Both children survive her. Her extended family includes her daughter-in-law, Carol B. Yundt, grandchildren Catherine and Jack Haan and great grandchildren, Elise, Abigail and Matthew Haan.
“Kappy” moved to Orlando, Florida in 1964 and had a career in the Orange County Court system, culminating as the Jury Clerk, where she touched the lives of so many people who came for jury duty. She married Clark E. Crain in Orlando in 1975.
She retired to Highlands, NC and then later to Aiken, SC, both places providing memorable times and wonderful friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken and enjoyed her volunteer work as a Guardian ad litem for several years in Aiken. She moved to Charlotte, NC in 2007 to be closer to her daughter. She found a church home at First Baptist of Matthews where she was a member of the Abundant Life Shepherd Group who supported her in her last years.
“Kappy” was a truly beautiful person who used every opportunity to leave a testimony worthy of her faith. She was loved by everyone she came in contact with due to her outgoing and cheerful disposition.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Carrington Place for their compassionate care of Mom during her last months of life.
The memorial service will be a private family graveside ceremony at the Ellison family plot in Seneca, SC, officiated by Dr. Fred W. Andrea, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Aiken. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine’s honor to First Baptist Church of Matthews.
