Kenneth Charles Rayfield

Mr. Rayfield, 67, of Matthews, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 at his home.

His family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 19 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, with his funeral service to follow at 3:00 P.M. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Dr. H.W. “Buddy” Pigg will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Rayfield was a native of Kings Mountain. He graduated from Bethware High School in Kings Mountain and Gardner Webb College in Boiling Springs. He retired from American General Life and Accident Insurance Company and was an active mason in Matthews for many years. Mr. Rayfield was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church for 47 years.

Kenneth was sick for many years with MS, stroke and heart problems. Even in his illness, he loved life, his church, riding his scooter throughout the neighborhood to visit friends and to do what he could to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. He looked forward to sharing special time with his family and friends. Kenneth was there to support anyone who needed him and was a good friend to all. He was preceded in death by three sons, David, Michael and Brian, his father and mother, J.W. and Elizabeth Rayfield of Kings Mountain, NC, and his father-in-law, Jesse Burton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia B. Rayfield; a son, Jeff Rayfield and wife, Stephanie, of Matthews; a sister, Judy Whistnant and husband, Laurin; and a brother, Mike Rayfield and wife, Debbie, all of Kings Mountain; his mother-in-law, Ada P. Burton of Matthews; a nephew, Jason Rayfield and wife, Anna; a niece, Elizabeth Whistnant; and a sister-in-law, Linda Crotts and husband, Jerry. The light of his life were his granddaughters, Crystal Marie and Melissa Nicole Rayfield of Matthews. He is also survived by his close friend of 47 years, Bobby Jones of Denton.
