

Lawrence Anthony McGinnis, age 88, passed away on February 29, 2024, under the care of Hospice. He endured much to be with his loving family until he could no longer. He was a resident of Windsor Run Senior Living Community.
Larry was born on July 30,1935, to the late Lawrence McGinnis and Helen Kirby McGinnis in Claymont Delaware. He was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Chester High School in 1953. He received his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Pennsylvania Military College. He married Doris Rodarmel McGinnis and they raised a family together, living in Pa, Al, Washington State and Wilmington, Delaware before settling in Charlotte, NC in 1976.
Larry was the Financial Vice President for Valmet Inc in Charlotte. He previously worked as a Comptroller for Reynolds Aluminum.
Larry was a member of Saint Vincent’s Catholic Church in Charlotte for many years where he was a Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Most recently he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. Larry was a great lover of all sports,most especially tennis, but he will be remembered most for his love of his church and his dedication and love for his family.
He is survived by his children, Anne Marie Sopp of Greensboro, NC, Larry McGinnis and wife, Cindy, of Mooresville, NC, Margaret Mary Price and husband, John, of Belmont, NC, and Eileen Saer and husband, Henry, of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Edward Sopp, Teresa Tunney, Brian Sopp, Tracy McGinnis, Amber Whitmill, Laura McGinnis, Jenna McGinnis, Nathan Groves, and Anne Marie Basile. He is survived also by 14 great-grandchildren, his beloved sister, Helen Hahn of Wilmington Delaware, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by Doris Claire McGinnis and sisters, Madeline (Madge) Roche, Anna Marie McGinnis and Mary Manning Hughes.
Sadly, Larry’s beloved son-in-law, Edward Sopp, Sr passed away just 2 days after Larry on March 2, 2024.
A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday March 5, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Hwy, Lancaster SC, 29720.There will be a gathering for family and friends at the Church following the service.
