Lloyd was born on November 11,1941 to the late Lloyd Torrence Sr. and Georgia Mae Hyder. He was a native Charlottean. Graduate of Central High School class of 1959, Lloyd continued his education at Appalachian State University. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Mathematics in 1963.
Lloyd began a teaching career in 1967 at Virginia State University and Tidewater Technical College. In 1978, he returned to Charlotte where he taught at University North Carolina in Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College and several high schools in Mecklenburg County.
He had a love for classical music and sang in several choirs in Charlotte, including Matthews United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. He was a member of the Charlotte Oratorio Singers, now called the Charlotte Symphony Group, and a member of the Chamber Chorus. Lloyd's parents were string players and the founding members of the Charlotte Symphony. Lloyd also had a love for sports and was an avid Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets Fan.
Lloyd is predeceased by his first wife Sarah Torrence and second wife Betty Torrence.
He is survived by his brother, George Torrence of Waxhaw, NC; stepsons, Chuck Dellinger (Tappie) of Indian Trail, NC, and Scott Dellinger of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Chip Dellinger, Chad Dellinger (Katherine), and Kendyll Dellinger.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 31,2023 from 1:15pm to 1:45pm at First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte -200 W. Trade Street Charlotte, NC 28202. A service will follow at 1:00pm. Following the service Lloyd will be laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Park- 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212.
