Mrs. Dodd was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. A devoted member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte NC for 59 years, she served in a number of capacities including Sunday School Teacher, President of Women’s Missionary Union, and a member of Media Center Staff. Her love and passion for missions led her to participate in volunteer mission trips to 7 countries. Additionally, she was invited by numerous churches throughout the Mecklenburg Baptist Association to share her experiences from the mission trips with their congregations. She was actively involved with Dove’s Nest ministry for many years to help support women who had taken a wrong turn to find the path to Christ. Her secular activities were also service-oriented. Earlier in her life she was a Red Cross Volunteer and later she participated in the annual Charlotte Crop Walk for many years, raising thousands of dollars to help feed the needy in the Charlotte area. After rearing her children, Mary worked for 20 years in Charlotte Mecklenburg School System as a Teaching Assistant, most of which was spent in the Media Center at Bain Elementary School in Mint Hill NC. At 70 years of age she fulfilled a life-long desire to skydive.
