

He is survived by his high school sweetheart/wife, Jewell; son, Larry Davis, Greensboro, NC; son, Russell Davis, Greensboro, NC; nephew, Randell Stilwell (Tina), Castleton, VA; and extended family, Allan, Sherry and Joshua Shaver, Zebulon, NC.
Mel was born in Wythe County, VA. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clara and Harold Davis; and sister, Marie Stilwell.
Mel served in the army in Korea. He was a car/truck mechanic and began his work at Harris Express and ended having his own shop, Mel's Auto-Truck Service, Charlotte.
Mel enjoyed NASCAR and bluegrass music, having attended many, many bluegrass shows and festivals. He talked often that he was going to be with Bill (Monroe) and Dr. Ralph (Stanley) in heaven.
Mel looked forward to his favorite lunch every day - hamburger, fries and coke from McDonalds followed by a dessert of candy (Snickers) and Oreo cookies.
Mel was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a graveside service will be led by Rev Leland Stephens, former pastor of Grace, and Rev. Bobby McFalls, pastor of hometown church, Austinville Baptist Church. The service will be Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 1520 W Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte.
