Michael was born in the East Bronx on February 7, 1939. He was orphaned by the age 15 and joined the U.S Marine Corps when he turned 17. He later returned to the Bronx where he eventually began his career in Institutional Food Sales. He traveled across the US representing well known food companies. In 1984 he moved to Matthews.
After he retired, he began a second career at the Harris YMCA which lasted for 17 years. This was his favorite by far because he made friends with everyone he met. His position allowed him to introduce members to each other. In one instance, he achieved match maker status when one introduction resulted in matrimony.
He was famous for telling stories that appeared to be true. In reality he was spinning a fantastic yarn that would end in a humorous pun. Being aware of Michael’s talent for these gags did not make them easy to spot. He told each story so well in such an earnest way that it was impossible to see the punch line coming.
Michael was a proud blood donor for the American Red Cross. He recently received a pin documenting his lifetime contribution of 23 gallons. That amounted to 184 visits to give blood.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon. He also leaves behind his daughter, Pattie (Wayne) Lamberson; and grandsons, Danny (Daniella), Tommy, and Matthew (Tonilee) Lamberson; as well as his sons, Joe Vincent and Christopher.
