

Olin was born in Mecklenburg County, NC on February 23, 1941 and attended Bain Elementary, East Mecklenburg High School, Wingate College and East Carolina University, graduating in 1964. He began his career of teaching mathematics at Forest Hills High School in Marshville, NC., then teaching at Sedgefield Junior High in Charlotte from 1967-1992, and finishing up his 30 year career at Independence High School in Mint Hill.
He was a lifelong member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church with perfect attendance in Sunday School his first 17 years. He was a member of Philadelphia Sunday School Class and a former deacon. At the age of 6, he was stricken with Bulbar poliomyelitis and was the first person to live in North Carolina with that type of polio. He was in the Boy Scouts and attained Life Scout (5 merit badges from Eagle). He was Past President and Past Treasurer of Mint Hill Jaycees, Past President of Charlotte American Federation of Teachers and was awarded The First Union Outstanding Educator in 1985.
Olin was Past Master and Life Member of Matthews Masonic Lodge #461, serving as Treasurer for 16 years, Honorary Member of Mint Hill Masonic Lodge #742, KCCH Scottish Rite and an Oasis Shriner. He was also Past Patron of Mint Hill Eastern Star Chapter #353, serving 7 times as Worthy Patron.
After retirement, he enjoyed small engine repair for friends and neighbors, going to the Siskey YMCA to work out, swim and being with his “Y” friends. He enjoyed playing bridge, NASCAR and Basketball (Duke Fan).
He traveled to most states including Alaska and Hawaii along with Canada, England and Wales, but preferred to be at home. His laughter, smile, humor and positive attitude will be missed by all.
He is predeceased by parents Olin Lee Flowe and Mamie Tweed Flowe.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gypsy Holliday Flowe, brother Lee Douglas Flowe of Mint Hill, NC, sisters Lucille Flowe Furr of Mint Hill, NC and Barbara Flowe Price of Greensboro, NC. Also, nieces and nephews Sibyl Flowe Moore (Henry), Paulette Flowe Whisnant (Dale), Emily Flowe English (JB), Deborah Price Jenks (Pat), Denise Price Francisco (Jeff), Dr. Stephen Furr (Ann), George Flowe (Kathy), and Michael Price (Vicki)and numerous grand nieces and nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227 with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00pm.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, Mint Hill Fire and Rescue Squad, the charity of your choice or give a pint of blood to your local blood bank to “give back” the blood given to him in the past weeks.
