Richard Milton Helms

Richard was born March 2, 1937 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late, Oris Kelly Helms, Sr. and Loma Serena Helms. Richard retired from Southern Bell after 40 plus years. He also served in the military and was a proud Army veteran. Richard and his late wife Peggy Little Helms were the proud owners of Aggies Ice Cream and Grill after retiring from Southern Bell. Mr. Helms was always there to lend a hand and was one of the kindest men. He always has been a God-fearing man. Our family will miss him saying the blessing at all of our family gatherings.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Peggy Little Helms. He was a loving father to all three of his sons.

He is survived by his sons, Michael Wayne Helms and wife Christina Helms and Steven Douglas Helms; beloved grandchildren, Michelle Helms Smith and husband Shane, Benjamin Michael Helms and wife Holly, Kenneth Milton Helms, Jr. and Ashley Nicole Helms; widow of Kenneth M. Helms, Rachel Helms and lifelong special friend, Lucille Jenkins.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at in the chapel of the funeral home.

A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.
