Robert Dreher, age 59, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after a long and arduous fight against cancer. Born on January 8, 1967, Robert’s life was marked by resilience, love, and dedication to his family and craft.
Robert is survived by his wife of 30 years, Robin Logsdon Dreher; his sister, Lorena Dreher Sietz; his brother, Charles Joseph “Joey” Dreher; his sister, Laura Dreher Garner; his brother, Stonewall Jackson “Jack” Dreher; his stepmother, Lyn Dreher and stepsister, Lisa Creekmore. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Joseph “Joe” Dreher, and his mother, Emma Bradford.
Robert was born and raised in Cary, North Carolina. During his childhood, Cary was a much slower-paced city than it is today, so he was able to be a bit of a handful at times growing up. He graduated from Apex High School and later relocated to Charlotte, NC, where he worked alongside his brother Joey Dreher in trim carpentry as well as meeting and marrying the love of his life Robin.
Robert had a deep passion for woodworking and excelled at his craft. After approximately 15 years in trim carpentry, Robert transitioned to a position at Polk Historical Site. This experience paved the way for him to join the Western Team of Carpenters with the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources. Robert remained with this team for 15 years, forming lasting bonds with a group of supportive and caring colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Robert treasured the moments he spent immersed in nature and enjoying his favorite activities. He found great peace and happiness during his frequent fishing trips to Carolina Beach, NC, where the ocean’s tranquility provided him with relaxation and a sense of renewal. Likewise, exploring the scenic beauty of Black Mountain, NC, became a cherished part of his routine, offering him both adventure and a place to reconnect with himself.
For many years, golf was another source of enjoyment for Robert. Whenever his schedule allowed, he eagerly took to the course, relishing the challenge and camaraderie the game offered. When he wasn’t travelling or outdoors, Robert loved winding down at home. Nearly every Friday night, he could be found playing PlayStation, a pastime that brought him joy and a welcome break at the end of the week.
Following his cancer diagnosis, Robert created a “Bucket List” of experiences he wished to pursue. He fulfilled his dreams by attending an unforgettable air show featuring the Blue Angels at Virginia Beach, VA; witnessing the giant Sequoia trees in California; traveling along the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to Big Sur; walking through Chinatown and savoring delicious cuisine; seeing the Golden Gate Bridge; visiting the White House and dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant; exploring the historic sites of Williamsburg, VA; and much more.
Robert will always be remembered as a kind and giving soul, always willing to help others at any time. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but there is comfort in knowing he is now at peace, free from pain.
A visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, located at 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC, 28227, on January 25, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
