

He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 21, 1928. He was the third child born to the late Edgar Jackson Wentz and Laura Lamby Dover Wentz. Robert was a man of unwavering integrity, thoroughly devoted to his Christian faith and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Wentz proudly served in the U.S. Army in the 45th Infantry Division and was stationed in Japan as part of his deployment during the Korean War. He has been a lifetime member of the American Legion for over 70 years serving as a past Vice Commander of American Legion Post 380.
After his service, he continued his education while working full time and graduated from Burton Institute, Charlotte, North Carolina in 1957. Mr. Wentz worked with his brother Frank Wentz at Twin States Truck Equipment Company for eight years. In 1968, he began his 40 year career with the US Postal Service, retiring on December 31, 2008 at the age of 80.
He was a dedicated member of the former Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church for most of his life and more recently attended Eastway Baptist Church. Mr. Wentz was often asked the secret of his long, healthy life. He was quick to quote Exodus 20:12, "Honor your father and mother so you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you".
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wentz was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Tulon Frady Wentz, his brothers, D. Frank Wentz Sr., Bill M. Wentz, Howard S. Wentz, Hugh O. Wentz, and his sisters, Patricia D. Wentz, Sarah Deese, and Verta Barrett.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Greth (Ed) and Annette Morford (Ken), two grandchildren, Kristy Cline (Donovan), Gerald Buchanan (Maria), four great grandchildren, Clayton Cline, Samuel Cline, Conner Cline, and Derrick Cline, sister, Barbara W. Powell (Richard), and sister-in-law, Beverly Wentz Helms (Johnny).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel located at 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Funeral services will immediately follow. Robert will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
