Ruby Velma Lett

Ruby was born in 1932 in Newport, TN at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and raised in the

Knoxville area by her parents Leona May Huff and L. Stanley Huff. In 1950 Ruby graduated from her

high school as Valedictorian. Ruby met the love of her life in 1953 through a mutual friend, and married

George Lett on May 5th, 1956. From there Ruby started her life as a loving wife, mother, and

homemaker.

Ruby and George moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1959 when George started his career as a computer

engineer working for NASA during the early years of the space program. On May 16th, 1961, they

welcomed their son Stewart into the world, and he became Ruby’s other love of her life. They moved to

Brevard, NC in 1967 as George’s technical career moved along and lived there until 1973. When they

moved to Durham in 1973 George had taken a job with Telex, and they lived there for 5 years.

The Charlotte years started in 1978 through present day when George took a job with Amdhal

Corporation as a mainframe computer system installer and maintainer. Ruby and George enjoyed

many years of travelling through at least 28 states and also Hawaii, many times in the several RV’s

they owned.

Throughout their life together, no matter where they lived, Ruby created a loving and warm home

while raising their son Stewart. She loved crafts, sewing, birds, her dogs, and especially her church.

Ruby and George were very active members of the Charlotte area’s Church of Christ for 33 years.

Ruby leaves behind her cherished and devoted husband of 64 years; George Lett, her son; Stewart Lett

and daughter-in-law, Melanie, grandsons; Brandon Lett and Justin Lett, sister-in-law; Opal Dalton and

husband Don, sister-in-law; Jackie Huff, sister-in-law; Lynda Lett, nieces; Kristy Huff and Karen Huff

and her precious dogs; Teddy and Murphy.

Due to these unprecedented times there is no memorial service planned, as the family is concerned about

COVID-19 risks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people make donations to the charities of their choice in Ruby’s name.
