February 28, 2020, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was the son of the late Noah Wilson and Elwell Tucker Carriker, of Charlotte.
Steve is survived by his wife, Lynn Gayle Anderson Carriker of Locust, his sister and brother-in-law, Belinda Carriker Flippin (Wayne) of Monroe, his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff Carriker (Lynn) of Asheboro, as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Additionally, Steve is also survived by his in-laws, including brother-in-law, Roger N. “Andy” Anderson, Jr. (Lori) of Avon, Indiana, brother-in-law Lee Anderson (Nicole) of Goose Creek, SC., and parents-in-law Virginia Gayle Smith and Roger Neal Anderson, Sr., of Charlotte.
Steve was a cherished husband, uncle and brother who will be long remembered for his gift-of-gab, unique storytelling, squinty-eyed laugh, good-natured personality and his amazing vinegar slaw and corn bread. His signature fried fish and shrimp will go down in history.
He was a staunch and vocal conservative who loved God, his country, 2nd
amendment rights, and his sweetheart Lynn Gayle, who stole his heart over 35 years ago. Lynn Gayle will miss his pampering and spoiling.
He loved Rice Krispy treats, his big screen TV, Lynyrd Skynyrd, documentaries, guns, WWII history, radio-controlled planes, seafood, 70‘s rock, astronomy, and his huge telescope, lovingly given to his oldest nephew.
Before becoming ill, Steve could also belt out a sweet love song or ballad. He loved playing his Les Paul guitar, and writing beautiful music. He once wrote a song in honor of his parents, and a lovely piece for his niece when she suddenly lost her husband. He was a true romantic at heart.
His family is convinced one of the first things he did in heaven was to whistle for all his beloved gone-but-not-forgotten fur babies, Purdy, Pal, Sleepy, and Joy. An avid dog-lover, Steve was dog-dad extraordinaire!
Steve was a 1973 graduate of Independence High School in Mint Hill and spent his youth working for his parents at the former Carriker’s Seafood and Steaks, where frying and preparing seafood became second nature.
Steve loved his job as the Property Manager of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, where he worked for 28 years. When he had to retire early, Covenant showed true Christian spirit with the way they treated him. He was so relieved, grateful and honored by their example of Christian love.
Covenant will once again show that same spirit and love as the Church
hosts Steve’s “Celebration of Life” and reception on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 1:00 PM. This will be followed by a private family interment at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
And one last request the family is sure Steve would have...go vote in the
primary...but vote conservative! Steve loved all kinds of people, but never understood liberals!
