Christine W. Patterson, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on August 14, 2016. She was born in Orrum, North Carolina, to Foncie and Cynthia Warwick on September 10, 1931. Christine graduated from Barnesville High School in Orrum and received a business degree from National School of Commerce in Charlotte.
She was married to the late Homer Darwin Patterson on January 26, 1952, and during their 53 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling often to the beaches and mountains of the Carolinas. They also enjoyed gardening, fishing and family gatherings. Christine worked for more than 25 years as an executive secretary for General Electric Supply Company. She also faithfully served in many different capacities during the 50 years she was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Brenda Gail Patterson of Northern Virginia; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Darwin Lee Carey of Knoxville, Tennessee, David Homesley (Rachel) of Cary, North Carolina, and Daniel Lewis Patterson and Delaney Leah Patterson, both of McConnells, South Carolina; her daughter-in-law, Dana Patterson (Lynn); and son-in-law, Gilbert Carey (Joyce). She is also survived by her fun-loving sisters, Sadie, Katie, Betty, and Angie.
She was predeceased by her husband and both of her twin sons, Lynn and Glenn Patterson. Most recently, she experienced the death of her lovely daughter, Joyce Patterson Carey. Joyce lost her battle with cancer on May 19th of this year. For many years, Joyce and Brenda shared in the care of their mother and it was Joyce’s greatest disappointment that she was no longer able to do so because of her own declining health. Christine endured the loss of her dear husband and three of her four children with remarkable grace. Her unfailing faith in a benevolent God gave her strength and purpose even in the face of unspeakable hardship. She was full of joy and all who knew her, admired and loved her. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and friend.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from seven until eight o'clock Thursday evening at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held eleven o’clock Friday morning, August 19, in the funeral home chapel, with The Reverend Steve Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of North and South Carolina for the tender care and support they gave throughout our mother’s illness.
