Clay was born April 27, 1942, in Webster Springs, WV to the late Montie & Orpha Armentrout Lynch. He was preceded in death by his six brothers, Ray, Leonard, Leroy, Hanson, Ed and Dave, and five of his sisters, Lena, Letha, Retha, Luvada and Alberta. Also preceding him in death was his first wife of 46 years, Janet Cutlip Lynch of Webster Springs.
Clay was a devoted husband to Rebecca and a loving father to Kelly and Kerri. He was a soft-spoken man of integrity, kindness and generosity and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His love for Jesus was reflected in the life he lived and the love he had for others. While he worked many years in the home-building industry, his greatest and most cherished work was as a Minister of the gospel, preaching, teaching and singing in multiple states. He was ordained and licensed by the First Baptist Church in Webster Springs in 1975 and pastored several churches throughout his life. His love of music led him to be part of several traveling singing groups in WV, TN, and FL.
Clay enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride in his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and especially watching his favorite West Virginia Mountaineer football and basketball teams. He also enjoyed coaching and had a significant role in bringing Little League Football to his hometown of Webster Springs. His positive influence and hard work ethics impacted many young lives. His legacy of faith will inspire and live on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared and the memories we will cherish forever.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lynch; children Kelly (David) LeCroy, Kerri (Roland) Rose, and stepson, Heath (Kitty) Weir; grandchildren, Megan LeCroy, Melissa (Kace) LeCroy-Kirkpatrick, Kristen (Jamie) Rose-Dutch, Kaitlyn Rose and Luke Weir: sister, Agnes Stewart, brother-in-law Rick (Sue) Cutlip, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family and close friends.
The family will receive friends at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home in Chattanooga, TN on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 11:00am – 2:00pm.
The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00pm and the graveside service and interment will be at the Ooltewah Cemetery.
