

George Walden, Jr., 73 of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 in a local hospital. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, he retired as Sergeant from the Chattanooga Police Department where he served on Patrol and Investigations and also founded the Mounted Horse Patrol. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was a member of the Ooltewah Baptist Church and the Ernest Hale Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louise Smith Walden, Sr. and a brother, William “Billy” Franklin Smith. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, JoAnn Walden; three daughters, Kimberly Louise Callaway and husband, Larry, Ringgold, GA, Lisa Joan Hale and husband, Martin, Ooltewah and Pearl May Walden Day, Ooltewah; two sons, George Perry Walden and wife Beverly, Ooltewah and Michael Stacy Walden and wife, Amy of Lookout Mountain, TN; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bobbie Fay Stover, Harrison, Karen Huffman, Chattanooga, Helen Cox, Chickamauga, GA and Carolyn Smith, Rossville, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tony DeYoung, Rev. Steve Gilbert and Minister John Cupp officiating. Interment will be in Ooltewah Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Ed Townsend, Danny Willmon, Anthony Lemley, Jerry Mitchell, Jim Cunningham, Kenny Lindsey, Harold Orr and John Harden. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ernest Hale Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
