With great love and fondness, we celebrate the life of Tammy Darlene Queen of Chattanooga, TN, who passed away on Wednesday, February 26, at the age of 59, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, following a heart transplant.
Tammy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and caregiver whose radiant spirit and giving heart touched everyone she met. Her warmth, positivity, and infectious laughter filled any room. Whether hosting a gathering, sharing stories, or simply spending time with loved ones, she made life brighter for those around her. Tammy’s love for travel, animals (especially her beloved poodle, Emmett), and her family filled her life with purpose and happiness.
Tammy, a proud alumna of Tyner High School class of ‘84, found her true calling in the medical field. She worked as an IV therapist in various medical centers and graduated from Chattanooga College’s nursing program in 2019 as a Licensed Practical Nurse and was just a few months away from graduating with her BSN. For the past eight years, she dedicated herself to caring for adults with severe health care needs and hospice patients, always putting the needs of others before her own with compassion and love.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Tammy was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church and cherished her time with friends from Damascus Road Ministries.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Billie Jean and Arthur Leroy Bittenbender. Tammy leaves behind her husband Luke Queen; daughter Amber Schmitz (William); her granddaughters Elyse, Caroline, and Vivian; stepdaughters Leahnna and Laressa; brothers Garry Bittenbender (Tommie) and Tim Bittenbender (Debbie); sister Beverley Kelly; along with many nieces and nephews.
Though we will miss Tammy’s radiant presence and loving heart, we take comfort in knowing she is renewed in Christ. Her legacy of love, joy, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday March 6, 2025 in the funeral home chapel with visitation from 9 – 10 AM.
As an alternative to flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kids at Heart Foundation at CHOA https://tinyurl.com/4n9s5t6v in Tammy Queen’s honor. Her Granddaughter, Vivian, is currently receiving medical care for her heart defect at CHOA.
