Edward "Evan" Evans Metoyer, 91, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, after a long life filled with wisdom, subtle humor, and love. Born in Louisiana on February 2, 1933, Evan found his way to Chicago at the age of 16, where he entered the United States Army, and was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in Korea. Honorably discharged in 1955, he came home and married his sweetheart, Margaret and proceeded to make his mark on the city he proudly called home.
Evan was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened—because you knew he had something worth saying. He wasn’t one for idle chatter; every sentence was a little gem of thoughtfulness, and his silence often spoke louder than words. His children, Bryan (wife Kathy) and Lisa (husband Brian Trishman), will always remember him as a steady presence who never pushed, but always knew just when to offer the perfect piece of advice. The rest of the world stopped while the Blackhawks were playing - he loved hockey so much that he taught himself to ice skate in his own backyard hanging onto the clothes lines.
His grandchildren, Jason (wife Kristen and great-grandchildren Camden and Maven) and Megan, will miss his quiet encouragement and the way he could fill a room with warmth just by being there. He may not have been the loudest voice at family gatherings, but he was the one everyone turned to when they needed someone to listen. He was a favorite uncle to Kevin LaCour and the late Craig LaCour.
Evan worked for the City of Chicago for 33 years as a Communications Foreman and, as a second job, was a television repairman. He found joy in the stillness of the water, spending hours scuba diving, fishing, and boating—his favorite activities to reflect and unwind. He may not have been the biggest storyteller, but his love of the outdoors spoke volumes about who he was.
Evan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret, and his son, Scott; parents Edward Amadee and Severine and siblings Cecile (Dupree), Gussie, Allen and Paul. He is reunited with them, surely enjoying the peace of eternal waters. Bonswa
