

John D. Altobelli, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 28, 2021. John is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, of 65 years; children John (Cathy) Altobelli and Maria (Kurt) Trelenberg; grandchildren Joseph, Dominic, and Marisa; sister Maria and brother Antonio (Maria), sister-in-law Elaine; brother-in-law Ronald (Judi) Pikul. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews here and in Italy. John is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Maria Lucia; siblings Adam, Armando, Giuseppina and Carmela; in-laws Santo Lucarelli, Donato Sacchetti, Giovanni Picuccio and Dina Altobelli; nephew Michael.
John was born and raised in Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in 1950 at the age of 18. He was a longtime resident of Chicago and worked as a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years. John was extremely proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed taking many trips back to Italy to visit with his cherished family. His passions were gardening, canning tomatoes, and being outdoors. Most of all, he treasured spending time with his family and making them laugh. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
