Manny Corona Sr., age 81 passed away on January 1, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. Born on January 8, 1944, in the same city he called home throughout his life, Manny was a proud Chicagoan whose presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Manny was the beloved husband of Mary Ann and devoted father to Manuel Jr. (Gina), Mark (Lisa), and Mandy (Tim Cuttill). He took great pride in his family and found immense joy in watching his grandchildren--Mark Jr., Matthew (Alexis), Tyler, Joshua, and Julia, grow and thrive. Manny is also survived by his sisters, Tonia (the late Rudy Aranda), Pancha, his oldest brother, Michael along with sisters-in-law, Vivian and Patsy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Procopio "Corky" Corona and Aurelia Murillo Corona; his sisters Lupe Arevalo (the late Tiff), Katy Hernandez (the late Jesse), Mary Acevedo (John), and Carmen Portillo; and his brother Rudy Murillo. Their memories remained close to Manny's heart throughout his life.
A man known for his resilience and strength, Manny was as tough as they come but beneath that rugged exterior was a heart of gold. He had an innate ability to fix just about anything and was always ready to lend a hand when something needed troubleshooting. Whether it was a broken appliance or a complex problem that needed solving, Manny approached it with fierce determination.
A lifelong fan of Chicago sports, Manny cheered passionately for the Bears and the Cubs. Game days were sacred events filled with excitement, often accompanied by two of his favorite things: a cold beer and a hearty plate of beans. These simple pleasures brought him great happiness and became part of the fabric of who he was.
Manny's legacy lives on through the love he shared with his family and the countless memories made over decades of laughter, hard work, loyalty, and quiet acts of kindness. His strength carried others through difficult times; his warmth made even strangers feel like friends.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire strength wrapped in compassion--the way Manny lived everyday.
