Rick grew up in the loving community of Birdland in San Diego and graduated from Kearny High School in 1973. A true San Diegan, our dad loved the beach, surfing and fishing. He was even more in love with his former wife Nancy and their 3 daughters. He was survived by his 3 girls, Carmen, Clarissa, Cynthia, former Wife Nancy, his 7 grandchildren, great-granddaughter, little Brother Cory, Big Sister Cindy, Niece Sarah and Nephew Bo.
Working 30-plus years for Matphil Technologies, Inc. His biggest accomplishment in life was being a dad, ampa, brother, uncle, and friend. Teaching us the ways of the surf and sand also the sand in our Arby's sandwich. Enjoying the sunset coming in from a day out fishing. He was so proud of his first grandchild catching her first fish and helping her hold it for a picture because she was scared. Making the best chili and cornbread every Halloween with enough to go around the neighborhood. Spending all summer of 2014 with his firstborn remodeling his condo that she would one day own and raise her family in. Waking up at 2am. on the weekends to help dad put together the newspapers and toss them out of the back of his truck.
He worked hard but made people laugh harder. He would say lines from classic comedy movies and do what he could to make those around him laugh. Every Christmas reminding us to say Merry Christmas while cleaning out the sh*tter from Christmas Vacation. Reminding us who Gary is from Weird Science. As well as being totally okay with living in a van down by the river well for him, it would have been the beach. He loved the ocean and always wanted to be cremated and scattered into the sea. Our fathers last boat ride will be on Sunday, July 9th, at 5 pm. meeting at Shelter Island, we will take our dad out into the ocean by his favorite beach, Torrey Pines, to send him off the way he always wanted.
