Don was born on December 16, 1942, in Seattle, Washington to Frank and Vivian Sands. Don was one of seven children; including older sister: Sharon, twin brother: David (1942-1943), two younger sisters: Colleen (1945-2020) and Marjorie, and two younger brothers: Kenny and Jimmy (1947-2021).
Don enlisted in the US Navy in 1960 and retired after 24 years of service. Don is now survived by his wife of 54 years Maria Carmen, two children Michelle Dunavant and David Sands, along with two grandchildren Charles H. Dunavant III and Celestina Dunavant.
He enjoyed experimenting with cooking and baking recipes, collecting movies. delivering perfectly timed sarcastic remarks.
A visitation for Don will be held Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Chula Vista, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910. A burial at Miramar National Cemetery will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122.
