Elizabeth "Betty" Neff Fry, 93, passed away peacefully at her own home in San Diego on March 26, 2012. Betty was born in 1918 in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in art education. For thirty years she taught arts and crafts to high school students, blind adults and to mental health patients. Betty married Wayne C. Fry and relocated to San Diego in 1941. They had three children: Michael Fry of Poway, CA, Donald Fry of Arnold, CA and Wendy Brown, of La Mesa, CA. Betty and Wayne were very active in the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego. After Wayne's death in 1986, Betty became an activist and was awarded "The Shameless Agitator Award" by her church.
Betty will be remembered always for her constant smile, her devotion to her family, her love for all the people of the world, and the beauty she found and expressed in her art. In addition, to her three children, Betty is survived by her sister, Julie Nisonger, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, 4190 Front Street, San Diego.
Her family wishes to thank all the members of "Team Betty", especially Seya Sangari, Robin Croughwell, the wonderful professionals of Kaiser Home Health, and Dr. Phyllis Brown who helped give care which enabled Betty to spend her final months in her own home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to "Doctors Without Borders".
