Hector M Rivera

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Hector Rivera, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us far too soon at the age of 45. Born in Sonora, Mexico, Hector grew up in San Diego and Tijuana, and spent his life proudly rooted in his Mexican-American culture—a heritage he embraced with both joy and pride.

Hector was a true Renaissance soul: politician, teacher, activist, actor, sailor, musician, poet, comedian, screenwriter, director, and mentor. His passion for life was limitless. Through his many gifts, he uplifted others, stood up for justice, and brought people together with creativity, courage, and heart.

Though he didn’t have children of his own, his nieces and nephews were like his own—he loved them deeply and served as a guiding light in their lives.

To his family, Hector was a wonderful son and devoted brother. He cared for his mother with unwavering love and respect, and was a source of pride and comfort to her. As a brother, he offered encouragement without judgment, protected without condition, and celebrated each of his siblings’ joys as if they were his own.

To his friends, he was a loyal companion who always gave more than he took, often putting others before himself without hesitation.

He was known for being hilariously funny, with a sharp wit and an unforgettable laugh that made everyone feel at home. Hector had a true gift for connection—he saw people, he listened, and he loved them just as they were.

He is survived by his loving mother, Maria Rivera, and his siblings: Jeannie Gonzalez, Cleopatra Wilson, Melissa Garcia, Denisse Reyes, and Ramses Rivera. He is preceded in death by his father, Hector Rivera Sr.

Con profundo pesar compartimos el fallecimiento de Hector Rivera, querido hijo, hermano, tío y amigo, quien partió de este mundo demasiado pronto, a la edad de 45 años. Nacido en Sonora, México, Hector creció entre San Diego y Tijuana, y vivió su vida con orgullo, profundamente arraigado en su cultura méxico-americana—una herencia que abrazó con alegría y orgullo.

Hector fue un verdadero alma renacentista: político, maestro, activista, actor, marinero, músico, poeta, comediante, guionista, director y mentor. Su pasión por la vida no tenía límites. A través de sus muchos talentos, elevó a otros, luchó por la justicia y unió a las personas con creatividad, valentía y corazón.

Aunque no tuvo hijos propios, sus sobrinas y sobrinos fueron como sus propios hijos—los amó profundamente y fue una luz guía en sus vidas.

Para su familia, Hector fue un hijo maravilloso y un hermano devoto. Cuidó de su madre con amor y respeto incondicional, y fue para ella una fuente constante de orgullo y consuelo. Como hermano, ofreció apoyo sin juzgar, protegió sin condiciones y celebró las alegrías de sus hermanos como si fueran propias.

Para sus amigos, fue un compañero leal que siempre dio más de lo que recibió, a menudo anteponiendo a los demás sin dudarlo.

Era conocido por ser increíblemente gracioso, con una aguda inteligencia y una risa inolvidable que hacía sentir bienvenidos a todos. Hector tenía un verdadero don para conectar con los demás—los veía, los escuchaba y los amaba tal como eran.

Le sobreviven su querida madre, Maria Rivera, y sus hermanos: Jeannie Gonzalez, Cleopatra Wilson, Melissa Garcia, Denisse Reyes y Ramses Rivera. Le precedió en la muerte su padre, Hector Rivera Sr.
