Helen Martinez Vasquez

Helen Martinez Vasquez, 94 years of age, of San Diego, California, passed away surrounded by her family on August, 3, 2014. Helen was born in Nogales, Arizona on August 18, 1919 to proud parents Rita and Hilario Perez. Helen married Andrew Martinez and they were blessed with three sons; Frederick, David and Edward. Andrew predeceased Helen and their young family. On July 31,1965, Helen remarried Manuel N. Vasquez. Their union lasted 35 years until Manuels' passing in March of 2001.

Helen enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, but being a mother and taking care of her family was her number one priority. Later, when her grandchildren started to arrive, she loved spending time with them. Other passionate interests included gardening, cooking, crocheting, and reading. Helen was a lifelong member of St. Rita's Catholic Church, always making certain that her boys attended mass with her.

Helen is survived by her three sons; Frederick Martinez, David Martinez and Edward Martinez. Survivors include three grandchildren; David Martinez, Silvina Rostro and Maritza Murphy. Her legacy also includes six great-grandchildren; Anthony Alegre, Aundrea Alegre, Jahlyssa Rostro, Deliylah Rostro, David Martinez Jr. and Alyssa Osuna.

Helen's life will be celebrated at Funeraria Del Angel Humphrey, 753 Broadway, Chula Visa, California 91910, on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Rosary recital will be held at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, August 8, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her honor at St. Rita's Catholic Church, located at 5124 Churchward St. San Diego, California 91914. Final resting place will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego, California.
