Marian J. Christison

The funeral service will be held on June 23, 2016 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 11:00 in Chula Vista, CA officiated by Pastor Ron Hovick. Visitation will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, CA. Arrangements made by Humphrey Mortuary in Chula Vista.

Marian Christison was born on March 14, 1919 in Renville County, Minnesota on the Weflen Family Homestead to parents Martin G and Julia (Stende) Weflen.

Marian graduated from Granite Falls, MN high school in 1937. After high school she worked at various restaurants as a waitress. She met her future husband John (Chris) Christison (career Navy) while working at Rangaard’s Cafe in Kerkhoven, MN. Marian and Chris were married Christmas Eve of 1943. She was postmaster at the Kerkhoven Post Office during the war years. After the war Marian and Chris were transferred to Bremerton, WA where their first son Michael David was born. In 1948 they moved to San Diego, CA and son James Martin was born. Their daughter Carol Jean was born in 1952. They moved to Chula Vista, CA in 1954 where she lived for 54 years before moving to Roswell, GA to live with daughter Carol and son in law Mike.

Marian was very active at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chula Vista, CA. She was Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer and involved in the Altar Committee for over 40 years. Marian was also Den Mother for Mike and Jim while they were in Boy Scouts. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She loved visiting over coffee and sharing a meal as well as writing letters and sending cards to friends and loved ones. She even started emailing in the 90’s. Marian was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was still making Lefse in her 90’s.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Chris in 1999 after 56 years of marriage and son Mike in 1995. She is survived by her son Jim of Franklin IN, daughter Carol Herbertson (Mike) of Roswell, GA, 3 grandchildren, Brian of Riverside, CA, Julie Distel, (Jason) of Chattaroy, WA and Gregory (Lindsey) of Woodbridge, VA, eight great grandchildren, sister-in-law Barbara Weflen of Sauk Rapids, MN, sister-in-law Alice Christison of Bothell, WA, 18 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
