

COMPTON, MARSHALL "TY" ROBERT January 19, 1924 to May 27, 2012 Born to William and Bernice Compton in Blair, Nebraska. He was an only child and as a young boy he hunted, fished and excelled at football, basketball and track at both Blair High School and Dana College. His main love was flying. Ty bought his first plane, a Piper Cub, at age 15 with money he earned working at a local lumber yard; he remained an avid pilot throughout his adult life. He left college in 1942 and joined the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet becoming a Naval Aviator in 1944. In 1944, Ty wed his high school sweetheart Bette Jean Young and they remained happily married until her passing in 1992. Ty and Bette started their family in Blair where Ty built his first home with the help of his father. After his discharge from active duty in 1945, Ty entered the lumber business. In 1953, Ty brought his wife and his then three children to Chula Vista after longing for the fair weather he remembered while stationed at NAS North Island. Again, with the help of his father he designed and built another home for his family. He continued in the lumber business with Home Lumber Company from 1953-62. He then struck out on his own establishing Compton Lumber Company which consisted of 1 full-service lumber yard and 2 self-service hardware stores. Bette and Ty added a fourth child, a baby girl in 1960. He then found his calling in the real estate business in 1966. Ty had a successful career in commercial and residential real estate sales and management. He founded Tyco Property Management Company with his son Mitchell which continues to serve the South Bay. He served as President of the local board of Realtors, was a State Director and Regional Vice President for the California Association of Realtors of which he was named a Life Member in 2002. He served as the President of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce twice. He also served on numerous volunteer boards and commissions for the City of Chula Vista, local charities, and the Board of Realtors. In 2002, Ty married for the second time to Beverly Birdsell. Beverly and Ty shared a love for travel and each other. In 2003, Ty was appointed by the City of Chula Vista as its Commissioner on the San Diego Unified Port District. Ty was a passionate advocate for his Catholic faith, family, profession and the community of Chula Vista. He is survived by his loving wife Beverly of Coronado, CA, son Michael of Decatur, NE, son Mitchell of Chula Vista, CA, daughter Marsha Webb of San Rafael, CA, and daughter Mary Beth Christensen of La Jolla, CA, along with 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial service is scheduled for June 6th at 7 p.m. at Humphrey's Mortuary, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910. The Funeral will be held June 7th at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 293 "H" Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910.
