Modesta Arriaga Gutierrez 93, long time resident of Chula Vista, CA passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday June 5th, 2016. Modesta was born on February 24, 1923 in Monterrey Mexico to Rosalio and Dolores Arriaga. She was a loving and dedicated wife to her husband who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. She was also a homemaker caring for their two daughters. As her children grew older she worked as a home health nurse caring for patients, many of whom became close friends. She was dedicated to her Catholic faith and was a long time active member of her prayer group at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Chula Vista. She also attended Sunday mass for many years at St. Rose of Lima Church. Modesta is survived by her husband of 54 years Roberto Gutierrez, daughters Donna Gutierrez and Denise Toms, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sister Catalina Arriaga, and brother Ricardo "Rico" Arriaga. She was preceded in death by her sisters Maria De La Luz Rocha, Dominga Arriaga De Zambrano, Josephina Arriaga De Valenzuela, and brother Ciprano Arriaga Esquivel. Memorial services will be held on Friday June 17 under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel Humphrey, Chula Vista, CA.
