Nick and I met at San Diego Astronomy Association in 1986.  We would meet each other at the Tiera del Sol observing site around once a month for years to enjoy the stars through our telescopes.  We also enjoyed camping together in Mt. Laguna and Mt. Palomar. Nick was a good friend and will be greatly missed.

I will miss Nick dearly as a member of San Diego Astronomy Association (SDAA).  I first met Nick at Balboa Park when he was showing us 'passers by' the stars with his giant white telescope.  I was attending the monthly planetarium show at the Science Center, that's how I met him.  Then I joined SDAA because of Nick.  A few months later he was at Terra del Sol, CA under a dark sky and walked me across the dark starry sky thru his telescope.   After I bought a telescope, I too was out there with the public learning from Nick where God's little jewels were and how to share them with the public.  He was the 'Go To' astronomer, showing us how to find these little treasures in the Heavens.  Now he's one of them!  Perhaps we'll see one twinkle at us very brightly, then assume its regular twinkle, maybe that will be Nick?  Rest in Peace Nick, we'll see you again when God calls us home too.  May God's comforting arms surround Nick's family and give them closure and know that Nick is with Jesus now.  Blessings,  Dennis Ammann

Nick, I , and others did numerous stargazing trips through the years.  Most of what I know of the heavens above is due to Nick’s generosity and sharing of his knowledge.  He will be missed.

I have been a friend of the Marilao family for over 45 years. In fact you will find me in pictures with the family throughout the years. I adored and respected Nic for his positive insight to life and unconditional friendship. I will have so many happy and fun memories to remember him by from the many camping trips the brothers and I took as kids. Nic had kept a full set of pictures with dates of our camping trips and we would reminisce about the good ol times. Nic and I would talk on a regular basis over the years and he would always ask me about my life. 
We we're just starting to talk the last two months about getting together and hanging out when the Covid restrictions we're lifted. He was taken way to soon but my only comfort is he is in a better place. I will miss you always my unconditional friend. This is not goodbye. I will see you later.

I have a lot of good memories of Nick and Mil and our close friends camping in the Laguna mountains.I'll miss you brother,vic
