May 30, 1943 - April 27, 2023
Pio Istanislaus Pimentel Lucero, Sr. (age 79) passed away on April 27 in the presence of his seven children in San Diego, California.
Pio, our Tatay and our Lolo, was born to Jose Marchado Lucero and Cresencia Pimentel on May 30, 1943 in Guiuan, Philippines. He spent his childhood days with his brothers Jose Jr., Francisco, Rolando, Miguel, Jose III, and Oscar along with his sisters Milagros, Trinidad, Consorcia, Angela, and Ligaya. Pio graduated from Msgr. Guimbaolibot Memorial School where he received his degree in history and was also awarded most religious student.
On June 22, 1970, Pio married Rosario Chua with whom he had seven children. Pio worked for the Singer Company as their only appliance representative in his town until he immigrated to America. Once in America, Pio and Rosario worked various entry-level jobs to support their family. Pio worked at Jack in the Box while Rosario became a seamstress and Avon representative. Pio eventually worked for Kyocera until his retirement, and Rosario became a nurse, realtor and finally a real estate broker.
Pio’s greatest achievement was his children and grandchildren. Through them his laughter, joy for life, and ever caring spirit lives on. As our cousin Meldy reminded us, “[he will] always be remembered by any Guiuananon as the ‘father with all his kids on his motorcycle.’ It was a beautiful sight to see my cousins beaming with joy and excitement as Tito Pio drove them around town for an afternoon stroll.” And with this, the laughter and joy continues on with his children, Jacinta Winchell, Rosario Murdoch, Pio Lucero Jr., Jose Cresente, Laarni Baber-Lucero, Rio Dexter Lucero, Mightor Lucero, and his grandsons Malcolm and Nicholas.
The Lucero family will host a memorial service on May 20th at 1:00 pm at Funeraria del Angel in Chula Vista. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held from 10:00 am-1:00 pm with a reception following the service from 2:00pm - 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pio's memory may be plants and flower arrangements.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.humphreymortuary.com for the Lucero family.
