Sylvia Delores (Cockburn) Wilson passed away quietly at 4pm on 11/19/2016 at the age of 60. She gave a valiant fight with unceasing courage during her illness. She was strengthened by the support of her caretakers, cousins Raquel and Bill Crouch of Tennessee, her mother Esther, brother and sister-in-law. And of course her many friends and family who came to visit and share, their love for Sylvia and her mother.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her father, Robert Cockburn and cousin Yvonne Crouch.
Sylvia is survived by her loving mother Esther Lopez Cockburn and her brother John Cockburn (Dawn) of Cloquet, Minnesota. Sylvia has two step children, daughter, Drucilla Vanderlinden (Martin) with granddaughter Isabella, and son, Adam Wilson. Special friend Dave Wendt.
She has many cousins from northern California to Mazatla’n, Mexico and from San Diego to Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Sylvia was aunt to Sian Houle (Chris), Terrie Cockburn (Michael Foley), Tim Cockburn (Jen Krzewinski) and Jesse Cockburn (Teresa). Great aunt to Taylor Houle , Otto Cockburn-Barnes, Amelia Houle and Cora Cockburn-Foley of Cloquet, Minnesota. Cousins Bill and Raquel Crouch, their son Rick (Deb), their children Anna Kristen and Dillon, and Whitney.
Sylvia was born in San Diego, California on February 28 1956 She graduated from Sweetwater high school in 1974. She worked in the grocery business many years for various supermarkets. Retiring at the end of November 2015.
She married Steve Wilson in 1985. They divorced in 2015.
Sylvia enjoyed many hobbies and activities. From playing a game of cards, to hiking with her many friends. What she really loved was Water, any kind of water from water skiing and boating to down hill skiing in winter. From her beloved Lake Powell in Utah to the Beaches of San Diego. Or even pool side with cousins Rick and Deb Crouch in Tullahoma. One of the proudest moments I can remember is her fishing with our Dad.
She traveled to Europe with her mother, to Singapore with Steve, skiing at Big Bear, and the annual trip to her beloved Lake Powell.
She was an avid Karaoke singer and known as "The Dancing Queen". As a child she had dance classes that led to never wanting to stop dancing. All music was a delight to her. Watch out, if Michael Jackson was played, you could get her air-band guitar going.
We have seen first hand the loyalty and compassion of her friends through her valiant fight.
From Grade school to High school, from the places she worked to the many people she met, she collected friends for life. She cherished each and every one, and they her.
